(13 sep. 1860, Indian Lands, cond. de Glengarry, Ontario, Canadá–31 oct. 1937, Winnipeg, Manitoba).

Novelista canadiense. Ordenado ministro presbiteriano en 1890, fue misionero en campamentos forestales y mineros de las montañas Rocosas canadienses; estas vivencias y los recuerdos de su infancia en Glengarry, Ontario, están presentes en sus novelas The Sky Pilot [El piloto celestial] (1899) y The Prospector [El prospector] (1904), entre otras. Sus novelas, que narran aventuras provistas de un mensaje religioso y describen los sentimientos sanos de sus personajes, lo convirtieron en el escritor canadiense más popular de principios del s. XX. Las obras más apreciadas son The Man from Glengarry [El hombre de Glengarry] (1901) y Glengarry School Days [Días de colegio en Glengarry] (1902).
